Within just a short drive from the farm their are a number of sources of entertainment for all the family, ranging from farm parks to adventure parks. Woodlands, a local leisure park, is a very popular venue for children, along with the numerous farm and wildlife parks.
Cruises on the Dart and Salcombe Estuaries are available daily and steam trains run frequently between Totnes and Buckfast and Kingswear and Paington. The National Trust own a number of properties in the area along with large tracts of coastline, which are open for the public to enjoy. For those wishing to spend sunny days on the beach, you can choose from large sandy bays to small coves.
South Devon boasts one of the finest coast lines in England, with over 100 miles of coastal path, stretching from Lyme Regis in the East to Turnchapel in the West. It is hard to imagine that anywhere in England could offer such an astonishing variety of scenery to the walker, from deep combes and water worn valleys that wind themselves towards the sea, to the working towns on the larger waterways, like Dartmouth and Salcombe.
In complete contrast just 20 miles to the North lies Dartmoor; with its rugged and harsh landscape, Dartmoor offers demanding walking but also has numerous more gentle areas for the family.
Totnes, just 10 miles from the farm, is home to one of the strongest art communities in the South West. During the year they host several art exhibitions. Totnes and Dartmouth have several permanent galleries. Just outside Totnes is the art centre at Dartington, of international renown, with a full programme of performing arts all year. In addition there are several well known local artists who offer lessons to all standards.
There are a wide selection of places to eat, ranging from pubs to quality restaurants. Dartmouth boast some particularly high quality establishments and our local village offers super meals in the Fortescue Arms. We would strongly recommend booking prior to your visit as numbers are limited.
Water sports of all descriptions are available within easy reach of Pitt farm. Salcombe, with its sheltered estuary, is the home to the Island cruising club, one of the countries foremost sailing establishments, which offers tuition for all ages and abilities.
Dartmouth offers charter facilities for larger yachts. Dinghy hire is available both from the Island Cruising Club and from the Dittisham Sailing Centre, with or without tuition. and self drive motor boats can also be hired from Dartmouth and Salcombe. Wind surfing, canoeing and surfing can be undertaken at a number of local beaches.
For those interest in horses there are two stables within five miles that offer riding lessons. You can also arrange cross country hacks. For the more adventurous, hacks across the moors can be arranged with stables on Dartmoor.
For the golfers there are a range of local golf courses which welcome visitors. Should you decide to try the challenging championship course at Dartmouth Golf and County Club, you are entitled to a 25% discount on the green fees, if you are staying at Pitt Farm.
